As your Trustee, I have successfully led the fight to obtain millions of dollars in funding for school improvements in York South-Weston. Last year, we obtained funding to rebuild Dennis Avenue C.S and to build an addition at George Syme C.S. Our community has some of the oldest schools in the city of Toronto and are in serious need of repair or need to be rebuilt entirely. I look forward to continue working together with all of our local communities to fight for funding to modernize our schools and build healthy learning environments for our children.
I know the challenges faced by parents in finding quality affordable child care in their local communities. Whether you require before and after care, or daycare for pre-school age children, accessible child care is critical in supporting working families. I believe that schools play an important role in this objective. During this past term, we have announced child care expansions at Weston Memorial Jr. P.S, Pelmo Park P.S, Bala Avenue P.S, Dennis Avenue P.S, and George Syme C.S. If re-elected I will continue to advocate for local child care solutions centered in our local schools as I believe our schools provide the safest and best option in supporting parents and their child care needs.
Many school communities have expressed their support for K to 8 education and the phasing out of middle schools. The benefits of keeping children in one school during their most formative years is well known. Working together, we have transitioned many local schools to the K to 8 delivery model. Recently, the TDSB approved George Syme C.S, Roselands Jr. P.S, Lambton Park C.S, and Dennis Avenue C.S to transition to K to 8 schools. If re-elected, I will continue working with other local school communities in pursuit of further expansion of K to 8 education.
